SATURDAY MORNING STONE CARVING

An introduction to the tools and techniques of Stone Carving offering the opportunity to explore the design  and development of this ancient traditional skill.

The Green Man is an ancient, mythical, and intriguing motif. This course will introduce the tools and techniques of stone carving, and guide you through the process of producing your own ‘Green Man’ sculpture in relief.

An opportunity to learn the traditional skills of leaded glass panels as used over the centuries. Beginners welcome and those who wish to extend and re-fresh their skills. Copper foil and leaded techniques covered.

This course looks at the basic skills of silver smithing and in particular stone setting to create 2 unique pieces of jewellery set with your favourite semi-precious cabochon stones.

Through demonstration and hands on experience, the basic principles of glass blowing will be discovered. Students will be shown how to gather, form and use colour and will make paper weights, beads, vases or sculptural objects.

Anthony will guide you through the process of direct carving, either in relief form or in the round. You will be encouraged to explore your creativity, and develop your own practical skills and techniques.
 
 
 
Letter Cutting
INTRODUCTION TO LETTER CUTTING

Students will be introduced to the techniques of cutting a non serif, uppercase letter form on slate, potentially leading to a short inscription. The cost of materials are included.

For those students who have done some Letter Cutting but would like to extend their skills to the serif capital and lower case letters. The ccst of materials are included.

Using your own artwork we will be etching in silver and exploring basic silver smithing skills to turn your designs into 2 beautiful pieces of jewellery. There will be the option to make a pendant, a ring or earrings.
 
 
 
BRONZE CASTING AND FURNACE BUILDING
Tutor: Shane Whitehead
A unique opportunity to acquire the skill of Bronze Casting using the lost wax and ceramic shell casting process. The work will be cast in a small foundry at the studio, built by the participating students.

Modern acrylics are bright and bold and the medium of choice for many professional artists. Quick-drying, non-toxic and soluble in water; it's easy to get started! Learn how to begin your painting, mix your colours, use expressive brushstrokes and work with a palette knife.

WOOD CARVING IN RELIEF

The aim of this course is to complete a relief in one day, developing an awareness of the design process and an understanding of wood, wood carving techniques and woodcarving tools.
