'The Creation Frieze' - Laurence Tindall, Stone Sculpture Tutor
“The ‘Creation Frieze’ at St. Phillips Primary School in Bath is nearing completion and the wax sculptures mentioned in the last newsletter have all been cast into bronze thanks to the generous help and encouragement provided by Shute Farm Studio. Over the last year the casts have been made using a portable foundry at the studio and now over 250 individual bronze casts of the childrens’ work have been finished including figures on the final panel that have been made by workshops of the Royal National Institute of the Deaf in Bath.
The story tells of the Bible Creation in a way that is accessible to people of different religion or no religion. “I hope there are elements in the story that everyone can relate to. Above all I hope that this project will help everyone focus on the importance of treating the environment and life in all its forms with respect and care.”
“I have now been working with the school for nearly four years. Over this time I have been involved in many aspects of the school’s work and have got to know the children and parents. I completed the “Feeding of the Five Thousand” panel in the foyer last summer and now I feel sad to think my time with the school is coming to an end, but I am very excited about seeing the work installed and finished. We hope the Creation Frieze will be a reminder to all who took part and of their time at the school and that it will be a part of the local landscape for many years to come.”
